dealing with aggression
DESCRIPTION AND EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

Anger and aggression do not usually appear in a vacuum. While some individuals might be particularly predisposed to experiencing and displaying inappropriate anger, through their biological make-up and early life experiences, anger is usually a reactive response to a perceived threat to the individual's physical or psychological integrity and well-being.

Anger does not inevitably have to lead to violence. There are a number of intervention points along the anger pathway that can assist angry individuals to become settled, and thereby avert an incident.

Dealing with anger in the workplace requires a concerted approach to angry individuals that de-escalates their anger, and maintains the safety and security of the working environment.

At the end of this workshop, participants will understand the nature of anger regulation, the circumstances that initiate both its adaptive and maladaptive expression, and its management. The best approach to dealing with anger in the workplace is one that melds theory with clinical sensibilities and regard for the unique features and stressors of workplace environments.
